Upper construction and breathability

We combined 1.8mm suede leather panels across high-wear zones—toe cap, heel counter, lace eyelets—with breathable nylon mesh at the instep and collar. This hybrid construction sheds weight while maintaining structure where boots take the most abuse. The Gore-Tex lining sits between the outer materials and the internal footbed, forming a continuous waterproof barrier from toe to cuff.
Vents woven into the mesh sections allow hot air to escape during steep climbs, so sweat doesn’t pool inside the boot. The same Gore-Tex membrane technology we use across our waterproof lineup keeps the Inhaler II GTX protective in rain, snow, and stream crossings without turning your boots into sweatboxes on dry summer trails.
Midsole cushioning and trail stability

The dual-density EVA midsole layers a firmer heel wedge under a softer forefoot foam. That combination absorbs impacts when you step down onto rocks while providing enough firmness to prevent ankle roll on off-camber trail sections. We shaped the midsole with a slight rocker profile, promoting a natural heel-to-toe transition that reduces fatigue over long distances.
A molded TPU shank runs through the midfoot, delivering torsional rigidity when you’re edging on narrow trail ledges or balancing across log bridges. The shank stops short of the forefoot, preserving flex for scrambling moves and uneven ground.

Lug pattern and rubber compound
We spec’d Vibram’s Contact Grip rubber for the Inhaler II GTX outsole—a compound that balances durability with sticky traction on wet surfaces. The 4mm multidirectional lugs bite into soft dirt and trail mud, while wider heel lugs provide braking control on steep descents. Siped edges cut through surface water on granite slabs and wet roots.
The outsole wraps slightly up the toe rand, guarding the leather upper from abrasion and giving you a secure platform for toeholds during scrambles. Vasque designed the lug spacing wide enough to shed mud quickly, so the tread doesn’t clog on mucky spring trails.

The Inhaler II GTX uses a cemented outsole attachment rather than a stitched or bolted construction, which makes professional resoling difficult and often not cost-effective. With proper care and rotation, the Vibram Contact Grip outsole typically lasts 500 to 800 trail miles depending on terrain and hiker weight. When the lugs wear to 2mm or less, we recommend replacing the boots to maintain traction and stability.
After each hike, remove the insoles and allow the boots to air-dry fully in a ventilated space away from direct heat. Rinse mud and debris from the exterior with cool water and a soft brush. Every few months, clean the Gore-Tex lining by hand-washing the interior with a mild soap solution, then rinsing thoroughly. Avoid fabric softeners and harsh detergents, which can degrade the membrane’s waterproof properties.

Vasque produces the Inhaler II GTX on a medium-volume last for men and a slightly narrower women’s-specific last. We do not currently offer dedicated wide or narrow width options for this model.
