Our Arrowhead UltraDry boots bring the proven traction and support of classic hiking boots into deep snow and below-freezing conditions. We built these with a waterproof UltraDry membrane bonded directly to premium 2.0mm Nubuck leather uppers, so moisture stays out while heat stays in.
The Arrowhead features 200g 3M Thinsulate insulation rated for sustained activity in temperatures down to -25°F. We paired that with a full-grain leather collar and gusseted tongue to seal out snow during ascents and ridge traversals. Waterproof Construction & Insulation System

The vasque arrowhead ultradry boots use our UltraDry waterproof membrane technology, which bonds the barrier directly to the interior surface of the leather rather than inserting a bootie liner. This direct-bond method eliminates the air gap where condensation can form during temperature swings, keeping your feet drier across multi-hour treks.
We selected 200-gram 3M Thinsulate for the insulation layer because it delivers warmth without bulk — your toes retain full dexterity inside the boot, and the overall stack height remains low enough for natural ankle articulation on technical ascents. The insulation wraps the entire foot box and extends up through the collar, creating a thermal envelope that holds body heat even when you stop moving on exposed ridges.

Vibram Arctic Grip Outsole
The Arrowhead’s outsole uses Vibram’s Arctic Grip compound, which embeds thousands of micro-glass fibers into the rubber tread. Those fibers create mechanical grip on wet ice by penetrating the thin melt layer that forms under foot pressure — the same layer that makes smooth rubber soles slip. In independent slip-resistance testing, Arctic Grip outperforms traditional winter rubber by 300% on wet ice.
We designed the lug pattern with 5mm depth and angular edges to shed packed snow during each step. The heel brake zone features wider spacing between lugs to prevent snow buildup that would turn the sole into a platform, and the forefoot flex grooves allow the tread to conform to irregular ice surfaces without losing contact.
Upper Materials & Durability Features

We use 2.0mm full-grain Nubuck leather for the Arrowhead’s upper because it resists abrasion from ice crystals and frozen brush better than split-grain or synthetic alternatives. The leather arrives pre-treated with a DWR (durable water repellent) coating that causes moisture to bead and roll off before it can saturate the surface fibers.
Reinforced zones include a molded rubber toe cap that wraps halfway up the forefoot to deflect impacts from hidden rocks under snow, and a thermoplastic heel counter that prevents the boot from collapsing inward when you edge on steep sidehills. The rand — the rubber strip where the upper meets the sole — extends 12mm up the sidewall to protect stitching from trail debris and crampon abrasion.
